Occasionally, I do things, or at least think about doing things, outside of the day-to-day. Here’s a few, in various stages of doneness…
BROOP Website
Bike Rides Out Of Pittsburgh is a fantastic resource for local cycling, written by Oscar Swan, and sadly out of print. With permission from Oscar, I’m planning to set up a site to provide digital access to the 400+ routes he’s documented in the book.
My intention is to provide a searchable repository of routes, categorized according to his system, linked to GPS tracks, and update-able with pictures and comments by local riders.
Home Media Server
Basically, I want to be able to share music, videos, e-books, etc. with friends and family, both inside and outside my home network.
Hardware: I’ve got some low-powered hardware scavenged from the dumpster at work, which should be perfectly capable of running Linux
Storage: Some form of low-end NAS, synched to cloud storage TBD (Backblaze?) for disaster recovery purposes, would be good
Media management: Plex Server
E-book Management: Calibre-Web
File Storage: Do I need to host anything? Probably just use existing tools like Dropbox, unless there’s a compelling reason not to
Dynamic DNS: Duck DNS
